Make a Bracelet

Most children love to string beads. Give children a length of dental floss and let them string pretty beads to make a bracelet as a gift. Younger children can string beads onto a pipe cleaner. It's easier for them.

Make a Paper Bag Scrapbook

to hold vacation goodies

Take two of three paper bags and fold them in half. Fasten them together in the center with a stapler (for small bags) or a piece of yarn, ribbon or string. Children can draw or paint pictures, write about things that they have seen or paste pictures from brochures or photographs of themselves on the pages. The open-ended bag pages can be used to hold postcards, fliers and brochures, photographs, travel schedules, ticket stubs, patches, or other memorabilia from summer vacations, Use brown shopping bags, lunch bags, colored bags or even gift bags with handles.

SCULPT WITH HOMEMADE SALT DOUGH

Make some salt dough (1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1 tsp. oil and about 1/2-3/4 cup of water to make the dough workable.) Use a rolling pin, garlic press. cookie cutters, butter knife, fork and fingers to make creations of all sorts. Roll them up and use the dough again or air dry them for sculptures to save. They can also be baked in a slow oven--250 until they are hard.

We highly recommend giving a child BOXES to use for building everything from castles to doll houses to play houses to trains and more!

Gifts Kids Can Make

Decorate

a Pencil

Can

Wash and dry an empty can. A soup can with the tab-pull lid is great because the opening edge is not as sharp as cans opened with a can opener. Glue washed and dried Popsicle sticks (or use craft sticks) vertically all around the can. If you use craft glue, hold them in place with a couple of rubber bands until the glue is dry. If a hot glue gun is used, gluing should be done by an adult or with adult supervision and a bowl of ice cubes handy in case of a burned finger, When the glue is dry, paint the sticks and decorate the can in any way you please. Use paint, pieces of wood, craft foam, fabric, stickers, buttons or other decorations.
