What they are saying about

Tryin' Ryan:

“Tryin’ Ryan was a complete joy for my sons (ages 3 & 6) and I to read.  A wonderful example of overcoming fears by using creativeness within to be successful.  Such an encouraging story for children and adults to enjoy and relate to.”

Lesley Hayes, MSW, LCSW, Mother of two

"As a therapist and director of a group home for young men, I would strongly recommend Tryin’ Ryan to anyone. Although it appeals to a younger audience, the message behind the words is important and meaningful. The idea that we have worth and can feel confident in decisions is priceless. It's obvious the author is experienced and motivated to helping others see inward. I would recommend this book to all ages."

Melony Darnell Opheim LCSW

“I read the whole book all by myself. It’s really fun to read.”

Logan Donovan, age 6

"The book, Tryin' Ryan is tremendous for building self-esteem in children. The bright, fun illustrations lead to a happy conclusion."

Linda Brittain, Educator

Tryin' Ryan is a  children's story written to encourage discussion about self-esteem, self-worth, and positive social skills.

Have you ever watched a child step-aside from the fun, afraid to get involved? From time to time it happens to most children and is an almost constant concern for others. Ryan is apprehensive about failing, getting hurt, and maybe even about getting involved with other children. He stays on the sidelines, an onlooker only.

One day, things take a dramatic turn when Ryan makes a decision to rescue a kitty cat from danger. In the process, he discovers that he is capable; he can make a difference and he even has fun with his adventures.

After that, he feels comfortable trying all sorts of new things, enjoys them, and feels good about himself.

If you know a child who could use a chuckle or two and maybe a little encouragement, this book is a great beginning for discussion. Children tend to identify with the main characters in the stories they read and this character makes positive changes. It is written for early readers but has an appeal to children of all ages.
